To open, Mr. Loper takes an account of the bleak world we live in, and concludes his introduction on a note of hope: to win in this world, all we have to do is put God first. When dealing with any trial, as with dealing with a bully, we have to face the issue head on. We start by going to our heavenly Father in prayer, seeking His will and guidance in the matter. In 1 Kings we read about king Ahab’s death, the result of not trusting in and seeking God. In contrast, we read about Jehoshaphat (2 Chronicles), a king who sought God’s will first and foremost before making an important decision. As a result, Jehoshaphat won the battle against the Ammonites and Moabites without having to even fight. If we seek God, and fast occasionally, in the good times, only then will we have the strength and foresight to seek and trust God when trials come. For the remainder of the message, we turn to Job’s account (and accompanying scriptures). Job put God first, which is what gave him the strength to survive the immense trials that befell him. After we put the issue in God’s hands, what can we do to row to shore? Micah 6 provides us the keys: “Do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly before your God.”
